(Standard for the Wire Harness Industry)
The IPC/WHMA-A620A was designed and developed by a joint effort between IPC, the leader in workforce training and WHMA (Wire Harness Manufacturer Association). The goal was to formalize standards for the wire harness industry. In essence, the goal was to create something where there had been nothing. This was going to be a big undertaking.

How would this be accomplished? With the help of Intercon, that’s how.

Intercon was in the forefront of the effort by joining the Joint Working Group during the initial development of the standard. Intercon’s representative was present at all work group meetings held around the country. Intercon contributed many of the photos in the standard, and provided much of the descriptive text and assisted with the editing.

Intercon’s on-staff Certified IPC Trainer, Bridget Burnley, will be receiving her fifth recertification next month at the Wire Harness Manufacturer Association conference in Orlando, Florida. The conference allows Intercon to remain current and up to date with happenings in our industry.

Intercon is currently certifying or recertifying its employees to the standard. This type of training reinforces Intercon’s commitment to continual quality improvements by insuring our employees receive the tools to remain competent to our core processes. Once training and testing are complete each employee receives a serialized certificate that registers them as a Certified IPC Specialist.

Certification completion is expected by month’s end, adding yet another “feather” to Intercon’s quality cap!

Celebration to be held Sept. 29 at 1:15 p.m. with employees, elected officials and business leaders

Forest, VA -Intercon, Inc. officials will join elected officials and business leaders on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 1:15 p.m. to kick off its 25th year in business with an in-house employee celebration. The Forest-based company, established in 1987, is a world class custom cable assembly and wire harness manufacturer.

“We’re a veteran owned company and we take a lot of pride in doing business with our fellow Virginians,” says Joe Stephens, VP & General Manager of Intercon which has experienced 25 percent sales growth since last year. “We’re pleased to see continued growth in our business even during difficult times.”

Intercon employs 57 full time employees, as well as several “temp to hire” workers.

Intercon has carved its niche by providing high quality, short run products in rapid turn-around time. The company prides itself on the capability to build Over-molded, Discrete Wire Harnesses, Radio Frequency (RF) Cable Assemblies, Fiber Optic Cable Assemblies, Flat, and Conduit cables according to customer specification.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte and Senator Steve Newman will attend the kickoff event to meet with employees. “Our employees take pride in their work and they are very proud to be contributing to the stamp of quality that inherently goes along with a Made in the USA product,” said Stephens.

Intercon hopes the event will help the company strengthen its visibility in Central Virginia and with other Region 2000 businesses. The company is currently expanding its opportunities with Homeland Security and Defense/Military Contractors within the defense/avionics/aerospace industries.

In closing of the event SGT Michael Hughes with the VA Army National Guard visited with our VP & General Manager Joe Stephens as well as Customer Service Manager, Alison Richardson. SGT Hughes presented Intercon with an letter of appreciation from the National Guard and a cased American Flag to display. This was for all the support given to SGT Hughes family during his recent kidney donation to a fellow soldier. The cased American Flag presented is one that is presented to every soldier upon the return from war zones. Our VP Joe Stephens and Customer Service Manager Alison Richardson were overwhelmed with emotions and honored to accept and display this gift.

Flexible flat cable, or FFC, refers to any variety of electrical cable that is both flat and flexible. A flexible flat cable is a type of flexible electronics. However, the term FFC usually refers to the extremely thin flat cable often found in high density electronic applications like laptops and cell phones. Where used to connect to flat panel displays, FFCs may also be referred to as flat panel cables (FPC). Sometimes the term FPC (flexible printed circuit) is even –somewhat inaccurately– used for any type of FFC. FFC is a miniaturized form of ribbon cable, which is also flat and flexible. The cable usually consists of a flat and flexible plastic film base, with multiple metallic conductors bonded to one surface. Often, each end the cable is reinforced with a stiffener to make insertion easier or to provide strain relief. The stiffener makes the cable slightly thicker.
